How everything started

Like so many, my love for cooking started at home. I would spend hours watching my Baa (Grandmother), Mother, and Masi’s (Aunts) move effortlessly around the kitchen, cooking up rich and flavourful dishes, using recipes passed down from generations before.

From memories of enjoying warm thick Chapatis smothered with melted butter made by my Baa, to watching my mother expertly combine a seemingly random array of spices to create the most luscious tastes and aromas. I was intrigued and wanted to join the fun!

Initially, I would fill samosa’s, chop ingredients or help prepare sweets for festive occasions. It took years of trials and dabbling with dishes and ingredients until, to some extent, with my own distinctive style, I had become almost as good as my mother.

10 years of food festivals, events and markets

Naturally, years later when I met Tamercan who had worked as a chef in Istanbul since he was a teenager, we bonded over a shared love of food and flavour.

Fuelled by our desire to share the dishes from our respective countries with family and friends coupled with a slight competitive streak, we created the ‘Tuesday club!’ It was here that we were presented with an opportunity to experiment, mixing herbs and spices, creating new flavour combinations and attempting to fuse Turkish cuisine with various dishes from all over India. It was a great success and led us to test our fusion concept with the public. We spent over 10 years travelling to food festivals, events and markets around London, sharing our fabulous fusions.

Fast forward to today…

It's been a long time coming and I couldn't be more excited to have created a place where everyone can enjoy our reimagined authentic food.

Welcome to Mona’s!
